How it all started
Inasmuch started over 30 years ago when Vivian Smith, the secretary of Broadway Christian Church, shared her lunch with a person in need. Since that initial act of kindness, Inasmuch has expanded to help thousands of people through the years who need a hand up, to hear about the love and hope of Jesus Christ, and to move towards financial and personal sustainability.
The name “Inasmuch” comes from holy scripture in Matthew 25:40b: “Truly I say to you, IN AS MUCH as you did it to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me.”
“[Inasmuch] became known for her ministry to the poor and hungry and they came often for loving, personal care. Utility bills were paid, clothing given, and food made available — all in the name of Christ.” [1]
