What we do

Inasmuch is a benevolence ministry focusing on food, clothes, household and hygiene items, bus passes, obtaining birth/death/marriage certificates, and limited financial assistance for housing and utilities. Are you in a place in your life where you just need someone to listen? Inasmuch has trained volunteers ready to listen to you.

Meet the team

Mary Ann Mings – Executive Director

Mary Ann Mings is the Executive Director of Inasmuch. Prior to joining Inasmuch, Mary Ann served as the COO of a major manufacturing company in Chicago. In that role, Mary Ann followed the Lord’s leading to build a work force of “the least of these”: people from prisons, shelters, rehabilitation centers, refugees, and human trafficking victims. The years there built her radical and wholehearted faith and obedience to Jesus. Mary Ann has an MS in Education from Northern Illinois University; and MBA from UIC and is pursuing her MDiv from Columbia International University. Mary Ann is passionate about Inasmuch and the partnerships between Inasmuch and other organizations throughout Allen County.

Rick was born and raised in Fort Wayne and graduated from New Haven High School and Indiana University at Fort Wayne in Business Administration. He worked as a Bank Operations Officer in Administrative Services starting out as a teller while attending college. After 35 years in banking, the Lord led Rick to serve at Inasmuch and Broadway. In his spare time, Rick enjoys doing genealogical research and spending time with his wife of 35 years, Barb, and their son Jeff.

How it all started

Inasmuch started over 30 years ago when Vivian Smith, the secretary of Broadway Christian Church, shared her lunch with a person in need. Since that initial act of kindness, Inasmuch has expanded to help thousands of people through the years who need a hand up, to hear about the love and hope of Jesus Christ, and to move towards financial and personal sustainability.

The name “Inasmuch” comes from holy scripture in Matthew 25:40b: “Truly I say to you, IN AS MUCH as you did it to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me.”

[Inasmuch] became known for her ministry to the poor and hungry and they came often for loving, personal care. Utility bills were paid, clothing given, and food made available — all in the name of Christ. [1]
